Effects of Nitrate Recycle on the Sludge Densification in Plug-Flow Bioreactors Fed with Real Domestic Wastewater

The impact of adding a modified Ludzack–Ettinger (MLE) configuration with Nitrate Recycle (NRCY) on continuous-flow aerobic granulation has yet to be explored. potential negative effects MLE sludge densification include that: (1) bioflocs brought by NRCY could compete granules in feast zones; and (2) carbon addition anoxic zones increase the system organic loading rates lead higher feast-to-famine ratios. Two pilot-scale plug flow reactor (PFR) systems fed real domestic wastewater were set up onsite test these hypotheses. results showed that hinder granulation, but hindrance alleviated location change which some extent also compensates for effect ratios due MLE. This can advantageous drive without radical washout inventory, had no chemical oxygen demand (COD) nitrogen removal efficiencies.
